Hello, everyone!
Over the past few months, these newsletters have been fun to write. We’ve
announced our updated interface, our streamlined project registration, new
hosting services for popular applications (such as Trac, phpBB, and
MediaWiki), and support for all five major SCM systems.
Things are moving even faster now than they were before…scary fast.
Last Thursday, we unveiled the winners of our 2009 Community Choice Awards.
We’ll be posting lots of photos and videos from the awards party soon,
along with data about the voting process and information about this year’s
winners, so keep an eye on http://sourceforge.net/cca in the coming days.
Earlier last week, we announced our new File Release System: a flexible,
directory-based system that supports subdirectories and symlinks. You can
manage your files using SFTP, rsync+ssh, SCP, or through the SourceForge
site. Frequent users will be glad to know that new files can be released
without ever opening a web browser.
Two weeks ago, we launched something else: ratings, reviews, and tagging
for projects. Millions of people evaluate and download open source
software, and we want them to have as much information as possible. We
encourage you to contribute a rating, a review, or a couple of tags to the
projects you’re familiar with.
Your user profile should be unique to you, but until now you haven’t had
very much control over what it contains. Our new user profile page lets
you add content - including your Ohloh profile or an RSS feed - and adjust
layout. We hope to do something similar for project pages soon, so let us
know what you think! If you want to see what a new profile page looks
like, mine is right here: http://sf.net/users/rturk
Users of our hosted Trac service will also be pleased to know that their
trac.ini file can now be edited through Trac’s admin interface, and we’ve
enabled support for email as well. Enjoy!
Thanks for reading. Until next time!

== Policy Change: Advertising In Project Web Space ==
Our historical Terms of Use have prohibited projects from displaying
advertising in their project web space. Over the years, we’ve had a
variety of reasons for this policy…but none of them really make sense
anymore. The solid fact is that the content of your project’s web space
belongs to you, not us.
If your project can use some extra cash, feel free to advertise in your
project’s web space. Naturally, the rest of our Terms of Use still apply -
especially section three, which contains a few words about inappropriate
content. So no adult-oriented ads, please. :)
== SourceForge Mail Alias Opt-Out ==
We provide all SourceForge users with e-mail aliases at
users.sourceforge.net that allow them to communicate without exposing their
real identity. Since we launched our service, the net has become a
different place; fighting spam has become an arms race, and, in spite of
our best efforts, our users sometimes receive spam via these mail aliases.
As we continue to fight the good fight against spam, we also want to
provide a few options. If you’re frustrated by receiving spam via
SourceForge, you can opt out of your username@users.sourceforge.net mail
alias.
Your options include: a) accept all mail, the default for existing
accounts; b) accept mail from internal SourceForge hosts, like mailing
lists and SCM commit mails, the default for new accounts; and c) reject all
mail. The SourceForge staff, however, can still send you mail even if your
mail alias is disabled.
Update your settings here: http://sourceforge.net/account/
